What BeaconICT is

BeaconICT is a case routing and coordination prototype built for the Wichita 2026 AI Prompt Championship. It helps people experiencing homelessness or housing instability get connected to shelter, transition programs, and support services in Wichita, Kansas. Navigation Partners — staff at participating organizations — use BeaconICT to manage referrals and track whether neighbors get placed.

Information we collect during intake

When someone submits intake through BeaconICT, we collect only what is needed to route them to the right resource:

  • A display name (can be a first name or a name you choose)
  • Age band and household type (youth, family, veteran, or single adult)
  • Immediate need (shelter, transition housing, benefits, or documents)
  • Known barriers (e.g., no ID, no transport)
  • A safe contact method — phone, email, or trusted contact — if the person chooses to provide one. Contact is entirely optional.
  • A preferred language (English or Spanish)
  • Optional intake notes

We do not collect Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, immigration status, medical history, or any information beyond what is listed above.

How we use intake information

Intake information is used exclusively to generate a ranked pathway — a list of reachable providers matched to the person's profile — and to create trackable handoffs so a Navigation Partner can follow through on the referral. We do not use intake data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose outside direct service coordination.

Who can see your case

Your case is visible to Navigation Partners at organizations participating in the BeaconICT network. They see your display name, household profile, pathway recommendations, and the status of any handoffs or tasks. Safe contact information is visible only to Navigation Partners who have accepted a handoff on your case.

No intake data is sold, shared with advertisers, or disclosed to any third party outside the coordination network. Data may be shared with law enforcement only if required by law.

Case access and your QR code

When you complete intake, you receive a case code, a PIN, and a QR code. Anyone who has your QR code can open your case portal. Treat it like a password — do not share it with people you do not trust. If you believe your QR code was seen by someone else, ask your Navigation Partner to regenerate it.

Data storage

Case data is stored in a cloud-hosted PostgreSQL database (Neon) with encryption at rest and in transit. Navigation Partner accounts are protected by passkey authentication — no passwords are stored.

Prototype status

BeaconICT is currently a prototype built for a competition. It is not yet a production service. Data submitted during the prototype period may be deleted at the end of the competition. Do not submit sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary for the intake flow.
